A gold-mounted Nepalese kothimora kukri
late 19th/early 20th century

The heavy 13 1/2 inch blade of typical form. 20 karat gold ferrule. One-piece grip carved of green horn. Black leather-covered scabbard with 20 karat gold mounts, the throat with pierced and chased design with pre-1920 Nepalese coat-of-arms flanked by leafy scrollwork, the chape with similar decoration featuring a bird. Reverse with scabbard retaining the horn-hilted side knives.
Condition: Blade showing scratches and some small areas of pitting. Grip showing some small chips and areas of insect damage. Scabbard excellent, the throat with some small tears and losses.
