A silver-mounted Moro barong
southern Philippines, late 19th/early 20th century

Heavy 15 1/2 inch single edged blade of typical form. Long silver ferrule below a plaited twine band. Burlwood pommel with finely carved scrollwork finials. Original scabbard, the outer facing at the throat and tip carved with leafy scrollwork. Scabbard bound with two narrow twine bands and a wide rattan band above the tip. Front showing traces of old label.
Condition: Blade showing some light pitting. Pommel with three hairline age cracks extending from ferrule. Scabbard with scattered marks and showing evident losses to upper twine band.
