A silver-mounted Moro keris
southern Philippines, late 19th/early 20th century

Straight double edged 23 1/2 inch blade inlaid with silver bands and scrollwork and above the hilt with copper scrollwork. Pierced and scrolling guard a separately wrought piece and fitted with two silver stirrups. Grip bound in twine covered in black pitch. Engraved silver ferrules. Burlwood cockatoo pommel. Finely made hardwood scabbard open at the throat to show the stirrups and guard. Inner side of throat with triangular relief panel set with brass tacks.
Condition: Blade showing light scratches and some minor pitting. Inner third of upper ferrule missing. Minor losses to grip wrapping. Scabbard with two short open areas of seam showing minor chipping.
