An ivory and silver-mounted Moro keris
southern Philippines, late 19th/early 20th century

Having a 19 inch ten curve blade, the guard a separate piece with two silver stirrups. Banded silver ferrule. Grip wrapped in twine bound by six twine ferrules and laced at the spine. Retaining what appears to be an original cloth festoon secured by multi-colored cotton thread. Elephant ivory cockatoo pommel. With associated scabbard secured by two plaited rattan bands and one brass band, the tip with a wooden pin. Throat cracked through at one side and showing inlet and pinned period repair.
Condition: Blade showing light scratches and minor pitting and scattered patches of heavy incrustation. Grip binding with minor fraying. Festoon showing staining and fraying. Scabbard as noted above, repair piece missing on one side.
