An English bridle gauntlet
mid-17th century

The arm guard of two pieces with cusped upper edge and turned rim; the outer plate with central rim and riveted to a wrist plate, five articulated metacarpal plates and knuckle guard. Inner plate riveted to a shaped wristguard with turned rim. Outer plates showing traces of double line engraved border.
Condition: Showing rust patina overall, some replaced rivets and with holing to inner plate and wrist guard.
