San Juan Guide. Topeka, Kansas: June, 1876. Vol. 1. No. 1. 8 pp. Illustrated with map. Folio (437 x 312 mm). Lower left corner with small chip, some tape repair to hinge.

First of only two issues of this promotional tabloid for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Rail Road. Mostly comprises Sidney Clarke's account of the richness of the newly discovered San Juan mines, in southwestern Colorado. Wonderful masthead depicting a train approaching the Rockies leaving behind the wreckage of a wagon and skeletons of horses; and corner vignettes of "picks" and "bricks." Laid in is a 5⅓ by 9 inch handbill printed on yellow paper advertising the Atchison, Topeka & Sante Fe line. Rare.
