PIERCE, FRANKLIN. 1804-1869.

Document Signed (“Franklin Pierce”), partially printed and accomplished in manuscript, 1 p, folio, on vellum, Washington, October 22, 1855, appointing John E. Hart as Lieutenant in the Navy, with engraved vignettes and orange paper seal, leaf creased horizontally and vertically, tape repair to verso of upper left corner.

John E. Hart went on to command the U.S.S. Albatross during the Civil War.
