Autograph Manuscript of Truman Petiton, 4 pp recto and verso, legal folio (conjoining leaves), Danbury, OH, May 17, 1819, being a summary of a murder case involving three Native Americans, leaves toned and creased, some chipping at right margins, corners of p 4 creased; together with Autograph Manuscript, 2 pp recto and verso, folio, [Danbury, OH], May, 1819, being the minutes recording the evidence presented in the above trial, leave creased horizontally, heavily stained at upper quadrant, still legible.
An intriguing pair of documents relating to a murder case involving three Native Americans, Negonabee, Naogocheck and Negassum, charged with “having commited a willfull Murder on the Body of John Wood & Granger Bishop on the Shores of Pontag River in Said County between the 15 day of April and the 05 of said month 1819….” The document describes the court’s attempt to provide the defendants with translators and to sift through the evidence.
