ADAMS ARRANGES PAYMENT FOR HONORARY SWORDS AND MEDALS AWARDED TO WASHINGTON, GATES, GREENE, AND OTHERS.
Autograph Letter Signed (“John Adams”), 1 p, 4to, Auteuil, May 19, 1785, to Messieurs Van den Yvers, paper watermarked “J. Honig & Zoonen,” leaf very lightly toned, creased horizontally in 5 places, otherwise very fine.
Adams writes this letter from the French village of Auteuil just weeks before he sails to London to take up his appointment as the first U.S. Minister Plenipotentiary to Great Britain.
