SANDBURG’S EULOGY FOR OLIVER BARRETT, WITH RELATED MATERIALS.
1. Autograph Manuscript Signed (“Carl Sandburg”), 1 p, folio, n.p., March 8, 1950, text of the eulogy Sandburg delivered at Barrett’s funeral, very light toning, otherwise fine, with printed broadside version.
2. 2 Typed Letters Signed (“Carl”), 2 pp, 4to, Flat Rock, NC, February 25 and December 20, 1949, to Oliver Barrett, reporting on the progress of the book about Barrett’s collection, Lincoln Collector.
3. Typed Letter Signed (“Adlai E. Stevenson”), 1 p, 4to, Springfield, IL, September 2, 1950, to Edward Eagle Brown of the First National Bank of Chicago, hoping to enlist his help in securing funds to purchase the Barrett collection for the State Historical Library, light creasing and toning, otherwise fine.
Lot also includes a first edition in slipcase of Lincoln Collector; 2 copies of the Parke-Bernet Galleries catalog for The Oliver R. Barrett Lincoln Collection, one in wraps, the other in quarter morocco; copies of The Abraham Lincoln Quarterly and Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society containing obituaries for Barrett; plus clippings and ephemera.
