Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years. New York: [1926]. 2 volumes. Large 8vo. Half ecru linen over boards, printed label to spine, t.e.g. New endpapers, very minor shelfwear, otherwise a bright, clean copy.

Limited edition, no 3 of 260, in first state with line 9 of p 175 (vol I) reading “ears” instead of “eyes” (estimated at 12 copies by Merle Johnson). Inscribed on the half title: “Roger Barrett / this is the first copy of this edition that I have handled. I hope you like the little sketch of your father in the preface. May luck and health be yours. / Carl Sandburg / Chicago, Feb. 1, 1926.” A rare first state copy of the first portion of Sandburg’s Lincoln biography, with a terrific association inscription.
