The Works of Plato, viz. his Fifty-Five Dialogues, and Twelve Epistles, translated from the Greek. London: Printed for Thomas Taylor by R. Wilkes ... sold by Jeffery and Evans, 1804. 5 volumes. Engraved plate of diagrams. Section titles. Translated by Floyer Sydenham and Thomas Taylor. 4to (307 x 235 mm). Contemporary quarter vellum and marbled boards, leather spine labels. Vellum spines darkened and two with slits, overall rubbing to bindings, internally fine with just a scattered few spots, uncut.

First edition of Thomas Taylor's translation; the first complete edition of Plato in English. "In his knowledge of Plato...[Thomas Taylor] has never been equaled by any Englishman, and he is still the most important disseminator of ancient philosophy in the history of English and American literature" (W.E.A. Axon, Thomas Taylor, The Platonist, 1890).
