LONGFELLOW, HENRY WADSWORTH. 1807-1882.

Autograph Letter Signed (“Henry W. Longfellow”), 3 pp recto and verso, 8vo (conjoining leaves), Cambridge, January 20, 1864, to Fitz-Greene Halleck, responding to a piece of writing the latter sent, second leaf tipped at all edges to larger mount, some toning overall, otherwise fine.

After complimenting poet Halleck on his work, Longfellow writes, “I thought of you the other evening, as I bowled along through Guilford, bringing home a wounded officer, and wondered which of the many lights I saw in windows, here and there, was shining on your book and face.”
