Photograph Signed Twice (“Mark Twain” and “SL Clemens”) and Inscribed, 6½ by 4¼ gelatin silver print cabinet card by James Löwy of Vienna, May, 1898, inscribed at top of image and on lower mount: “He had his desire—he has seen the pole; I have had mine, for I have seen him / Mark Twain / To Mrs Frithjof Nansen With best salutations of SL Clemens / May, 1898,” fine condition.

Fine photograph of Mark Twain, charmingly inscribed for Eva Nansen, the wife of Arctic explorer, Fridtjof Nansen [1861-1930]. Nansen became famous for his daring expedition to the North Pole on foot and aboard the Fram from 1893-1896. After WWI Nansen did humanitarian work for Russian refugees and won the 1922 Nobel Peace Prize.
