The Life of Samuel Johnson, LL.D. London: Henry Baldwin for Charles Dilly, 1791. 2 volumes. xii, [16], 516; [2], 588 pp. Frontispiece portrait of Johnson and two folding plates. 4to (265 x 204 mm). Period full brown mottled calf, covers with gilt floral and foliate panel, spine decorated in gilt and with two black leather gilt-lettered labels, custom brown calf slipcase. Some faint spots, repaired closed tear in margin of one leaf, joints cracked, spines with some rubbing.

First edition, with the “gve” reading in first volume.
Provenance: Bookplate with the Hicks arms to front free endpaper of each volume.
