Photograph Signed (“H.C. Andersen”) and Inscribed, 2½ by 4¼ inch albumen print carte-de-visite, May 20, 1870, seated portrait of Andersen, with imprint of Thora Hallager of Copenhagen to verso, inscribed on the verso in Danish with English translation below, very minor wear and oxidation to surface, otherwise fine.

The English text below Andersen’s inscription reads as follows: “Translation by C.J. Christensen Consul of Denmark at New York (Miss Rye’s fellow passenger by the ‘Maravian’ in May 1870: ‘To the warm-hearted noble-minded Miss Rye; heartily and respectfully / H.C. Andersen / Copenhagen, May 20th 1870.
