Cartas sobre los obstáculos que la naturaleza, la opinion y las leyes oponen á la felicidad publica: escritas por el Conde de Cabarrus al Sr. D. Gaspar de Jovellanos, y precedidas de otra al príncipe de la paz. Barcelona: Augustin Roca, [no date]. 316, [2]; [4], 62 pp. 8vo (149 x 94 mm). Period full brown tree sheep, gilt lettered red leather spine label. Some faint dampstains, binding with some shelfwear.
Cabarrus, a friend of Gaspar Melchoir de Jovellanos, was also an important figure in the Spanish age of enlightenment bringing about numerous economic reforms and originated the precursor of the Bank of Spain. He was later accused of embezzlement, for which Jovellanos also had to go in hiding, and sent to prison. Until his death, he served as minister of finance under Joseph Bonaparte.
