PARRISH, MAXFIELD. 1870-1966.

Autograph Postcard Signed (“Maxfield Parrish”), 1 p, 5 ½ by 3 ½ inches, Windsor, VT, June 27, 1916, to Herman J. Radin, regarding bookplates designed by Parrish, leaf moderately thumbed and soiled, laid down to blank preliminary leaf of Field, Eugene. Poems of Childhood. Illustrated by Maxfield Parrish. New York: 1904. 4to. Original black cloth, gilt lettering to spine, with color pictorial label to upper cover, t.e.g.. Leaves mildly toned, front hinge cracked, label rubbed, spine worn at head and tail, sun faded.

Parrish writes a fan who has asked about any bookplates the artist might have designed in his career. He writes, “I regret to tell you that I never had any prints of the book plates I once made. I have only made three of four, and the less said of them the better, and you miss nothing at all in not having copies of them.” Laid down to the same page with the Parris postcard is an Autograph Note Signed (“Eugene Field”), 1 p, 4¼ by 2¾, inches, n.p., September 16, 1895, to Miss Dewey, asking her to mail a check on his behalf.
