1. Original pen and ink drawing, 5 by 8 inches tipped at edges to larger board, signed at lower right (“Rockwell Kent 1931”), titled “To Ozias Humphrey, Esqre, William Blake, 18 January 1808,” of an angel appearing to a man seated beneath a tree, mounting remnants to verso causing mild toning to image, some glue residue visible at upper margin, mount thumbed.
2. Typed Letter Signed (“Rockwell Kent”) in pencil, 1 p, 4to, n.p., July 7, 1930, to C.G. Littell, on personal letterhead, explaining that he has not had a chance to complete the cover for the Blake manuscript, leaf creased, lightly toned, with paper clip stain to upper left margin.
3. 2 Autograph Letters Signed and 2 Typed Letters Signed (“Frances Kent”), 6 pp, 4to and 8vo, New York, August 11, 1930 to April 3, 1931, to Oliver Barrett and C.G. Littell, apologizing for the delay, giving updates, and returning the letter itself for which Kent’s drawing was produced, pages creased and lightly toned.
Oliver Barrett commissioned artist Rockwell Kent to produce an original drawing to grace the folder cover for one of Barrett’s prized possessions: a letter written by William Blake. With Kent’s drawing, now mounted into the folder cover, is a series of correspondence from Kent and his wife Frances covering the period of time until the project was completed.
