[The Naturalist's Library.] Edinburgh: W.H. Lizars, 1833-1843. 40 volumes. Wood-engraved pictorial title-pages (24 of which are hand-colored) plus 1279 (of 1280) wood-engraved plates, all but 45 of which are hand-colored or partly hand-colored and 40 steel-engraved frontispiece portraits of scientists. 8vo (164 x 98 mm). Period full plum morocco stamped in gilt and blind, all edges gilt. Light shelfwear and some rubbing to joints, some hinges tender.

Deluxe issue of this extensive work, edited by William Jardine. The one missing plate appears to never have been bound in (pl 24 in Fishes of Guiana I). Nissen 4708.
