BIDLOO, GOVARD. 1649-1713.

[Anatomia humani corporis…] Ontleding des menschelyken lichaams. Amsterdam: Joannes van Someren, Joannes van Dyk, Hendrik, & Dirk Boom, 1690. *6, A-Qqq1. Illustrated with additional engraved title, engraved portrait, and 105 full-page engraved plates after Gérard de Lairesse. Folio (515 x 350 mm). Period full vellum, covers decorated in blind, spine lettered in blind. Engraved title and subsequent few leaves with chips and creases at fore-edge, engraved title soiled, final few leaves with some small chips to fore-edge, plate 10 with folding portion detached, a few plates with short tears, some offsetting, a few faint scattered spots, binding with some soiling and stains to upper cover, joints cracked, inexpert repair to upper joint, still a very good copy overall.

First edition in Dutch. “The value of Bidloo’s Anatomia lies chiefly in the 105 fine copperplate engravings drawn by Gérard de Lairesse, and engraved by Pieter van Gunst. These are masterpieces of Dutch baroque art” (Garrison & Morton 385).
