The Birds of America, from Drawings Made in the United States and Their Territories. New York: V.G. Audubon, 1856. 7 volumes. Illustrated with 500 hand-colored lithographic plates. 8vo (265 x 167 mm). Original full dark green morocco, covers with elaborate gilt panel-stamped titular design, spine in six compartments, two of which are gilt-lettered, the others with gilt decoration, a.e.g. Some scattered light foxing, predominately on preliminary and final leaves and rarely affecting plates, dampstain to gutter margin in part of first volume, not apparent on plates, dampstain in lower margin of seventh volume, only affecting first 6th of volume, hinges cracked in most volumes, though front hinge reinforced in first volume, covers with extremities lightly rubbed, upper joint to first volume rubbed, head and tail of spines rubbed, a few stray marks.

Second octavo edition, bound in what appears to be the subscriber’s binding. Sabin 2364.
