London: F.G. Moon, 1842-43-49. 3 volumes. Frontispiece portrait of Roberts to first volume, tinted lithograph title to each volume, 120 tinted lithograph plates, and one full-page map. With: Egypt and Nubia, from drawings made on the spot by David Roberts, R.A., with historical descriptions by William Brockedon, R.F.S., Lithographed by Louis Haghe. London: F.G. Moon, 1846-49-49. 3 volumes. Tinted lithograph title to each volume, 121 tinted lithograph plates (2 with hand-coloring), and one full-page map. Folio (607 x 430 mm). All volumes bound uniformly in period half green morocco over pebbled cloth boards, upper covers and spines lettered in gilt, by C. & J. Abbott, Nottingham. Infrequent light foxing mainly to preliminary and final leaves/plates, else generally internally clean, upper cover to first volume of second title with six small holes likely from placard now removed, head and tail of spine and corners rubbed of all volumes, some stray marks, but generally an attractive set.

First edition. Generally accepted as the finest illustrated work on the Near East, Major Abbey considered this set to be "one of the most important and elaborate ventures of nineteenth-century publishing, and the apotheosis of the tinted lithograph." Abbey Travel 385 & 272; Tooley 401, 402.
