DE WIT, FREDERICK. 1610-1698.

Nova Orbis tabula, in lucem edita. Amsterdam: [c.1680]. Copper engraved map, early hand-coloring, 477 x 566 mm. A few repaired tears, including along lower quarter of centerfold, mild toning, an attractive example, matted and framed.

Second state with added cherubs in the cusps and added border. Shirley considered this one of the most attractive maps of its time with its “brilliant scenes in the corners [that] combine images of the four seasons, the elements, and the signs of the zodiac in a well-balanced and natural way.” Shirley, World, 451.
