1996, both are two-cel set-ups, depicting Frollo glaring at Quasimodo who has not only disobeyed his strict instructions to remain inside the bell tower, but has also made a public spectacle of himself by being crowned the King of Topsy Turvy Day, applied to a watercolor production background, matted and framed together.
Since there were no production cels made with this film, the character cels were specially created by artists in the Ink and Paint Department at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. The basis for the cels is original animation drawings rendered by Disney animators and used in the production of the film.
Provenance: Sothey’s June 1997, The Art of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, lot 87.
