Footnotes
Lapini was a well established sculptor specialising in busts and statues of young women in an attempt to capture the ideal of beauty using contemporary subjects. His enthusiasm for classicism was also refined through his work on the pieces he completed for visitors of the Grand Tour; these were usually direct copies of ancient works. After his death his workshop became Galleria Lapia and was still trading in the 20th Century.
A comparitive example of a study of a nude was sold at Sothebys 28 October 2003.
