Françoise-Eléonore de Manville, Comtesse de Sabran (1749-1827) married the elderly Comte de Sabran and was widowed by the time she was twenty five. She became a noted figure of the Ancien Régime in Paris excelling as a musician, writing poetry and novels. She counted amongst her lovers, Prince Henry of Prussia for whom the original Houdon sculpture may have been commissioned and who was to offer her shelter at Rheinsberg Castle during the Revolution. She later married the Chevalier de Boufflers.
