A Japanese lacquered jar and cover

Meiji Period
Of barrel form, with short neck, decorated in raised gilt to one side with a roundel depicting a fiery dragon, to the other a circular gilt panel with a phoenix flying above a branch of flowering pawlonia, bands of scrolling foliage to the shoulder and the centre. 24cm high (some damage and losses).
