Footnotes
Jamsetji Tata was the founder of the Tata Empire, a family who helped to shape the Industrial Revolution in India in the 1800s. After he passed away, his two sons, Sir Dorabji Tata and Sir Ratan Tata, took over the running of the various businesses, extending the family empire across India.
It is possible that this cabinet belonged to Sir Ratan Tata, who was a connoisseur of art and culture. He had a keen interest in Japanese art, which he collected whilst on tours of the Far East.
