A Japanese tobacco pouch, pipe and inlaid lacquered pipe case

Meiji Period
The tabako-ire, or pouch, of dark stained and polished crocodile skin with a silver clasp depicting a basket, with a large ivory ojime in the form of Daruma, his eyes in the form of moving sticks, the bamboo shafted pipe with metal mouthpiece and bowl housed inside a two-section lacquer kiseruzutsu, or pipe case, decorated in raised gilt with a cockerel standing by a bamboo plant. Pouch 12.5cm long, pipe case 22cm long.
