"Isle of Bute" a traditional Broads cruiser

Length:48ft.6in.(14.78m) Beam:12ft.8in.(3.84m) Draft:3ft.(0.921m)

Built by the Collins Pleasure Craft Company, Oulton Broad, in 1937 of carvel pine on oak timbers, shallow draft canoe stern hull with deep keel. Painted white to the waterline and black below, with varnished superstructure.

Engine: Twin 1,500cc Ford Consul with twin propellers.

General arrangement: Short foredeck, with long traditional cabin top, fitted with forehatch and two opening skylights. Accomodation consists of a small seperate forecabin (originally crew quarters) with double berth and locker stowage. Owner's bedroom with double berth to port and fitted drawers, dressing table and cupboard to starboard. A short central passage divides the sleeping accomodation from the saloon, with galley to port and bathroom to starboard, with hip bath and shower. The saloon has a central table, with free-standing heavy furniture and a cast iron solid fuel stove. Open cockpit with wheel steering to port, fitted with a canvas cover on chromed hoops. Short aft deck of laid planks.

"Isle of Bute" was designed and constructed to the order of WWH McGrady of Dundee, especially for the Broads and was described by "The Motor Boat" in 1937 as 'somewhat more luxuriously fitted out than the average craft'.
