"Bessie" a modern slipper stern launch by Peter Freebody

Length: 30ft.(9.14m) Beam:6ft.6in.(1.98m)

Built by Peter Freebody, Hurley on Thames in 2001, of mahogany. Bright varnished to the waterline, with a gold/black caveta and chrome gunwale strip, and blue below with a gold boot top.

Engine: Ford Watermota Sea Tiger 1600cc petrol, No.4335A. Instrumentation includes ammeter, water temperature and oil pressure gauges.

General arrangement: Laid foredeck with contracting King plank and covering board. Chrome fairleads, mooring cleats and navigation lamps, plus spotlight. Double chrome edged doors lift for access to engine space. Split windscreen to cockpit, lined with beaded mahogany panelling and fitted with teak gratings. Wood rimmed steering wheel to port, with hand throttle and floor gear shift. There are quarter shelves and stowage bins. A pair of individual bucket seats forward in varnished mahogany upholstered in blue, with fold-down picnic tables behind the squab. Mid cockpit side lockers, with coolbox to starboard and stowage to port and aft bench and quarter seat upholstered in blue. Laid aft deck with contrasting King plank, chrome fairleads, navigation lamp and mooring cleat, ensign socket. There is a folding pram hood on stainless irons and an all-over cover with stainless hoops. Inventory includes warps, fenders, fire extinguisher, automatic bilge pump, ensign and staff, boathook.

A superb modern example of the slipper stern launch from one of best known traditional builders on the Thames, "Bessie" represents the spirit of tradition, with new construction. Lightly used, she is licensed and ready for immediate use.
