Theakston. Michael: British Angling Flies.

Revised and annotated by Francis M. Walbran. The preface dated 1883. Ripon: Printed and published by William Harrison, London Sampson Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington. Eight plates of flies. Green cloth boards with gilt decoration. Bears previous owners signatures and dates, one being John Gerrard 1883 together with some loose newspaper cuttings on angling from The Westmorland Gazette, March 15 1890, and two others dated 15.3.90 in hand. ‘Black Palmer’:[J. M .Steel] Scotch Loch-Fishing. William Blackwood and Sons 1882 Dedicated to the members of the Western Angling Club Glasgow. Blue boards with gilt lettering and illustration. Adhered to the front board and first page are five newspaper cuttings, four noted in hand and black ink from the Scotsman and dated May 1882, May 1883 and August 1883 and signature of John Gerrard 1882 (and one other). Within the book are two pages of sketches of Loch Scamadale, West of Scotland. Showing the Upper and Lower portions with notes on the fishing including: ‘Fished by fly October 8,9,10,11,12,13th 1883 – only one salmon – 12lbs – out of river’ ‘best sea trout 2lbs on small fiery yellow body’ ‘Best time to go – after rain in July or if no rain then in August’
