An English Rapier
Circa 1620-30

With tapering double-edged blade with traces of 'Ferara' inscription within the short fuller along each side of the forte, each letter between four punched dots, an incised mark beyond, iron hilt (rust patinated) retaining some encrusted conventional silver foliage overall (rubbed and incomplete) and very faint traces of gold-damascening on each side of the pointed quillon-block, all within line borders, comprising cup formed of large double concentric side-rings framing a pair of central scallop-shaped shells, and linked by curved side-bars to the knuckle-guard, the latter drawn-out to form a ring at the top, vertically recurved quillons with flat swelling tips, large faceted ovoidal pommel, and spirally grooved grip bound with twisted copper wire (loose)
