An English Rapier
Mid-17th Century

With long tapering double-edged blade of flattened oval section (extreme tip missing) with central fuller along each side of the forte stamped with letters (indistinct), iron hilt comprising symmetrical shell-guard, each side rising to a scroll and enclosing a convex plate each finely pierced with alternate lines of figure eights and diamonds (one damaged), and outer side-ring above (one missing) with central diamond-shaped feature and linked on each side by slender scrolled bars to the knuckle-guard en suite, downcurved arms (one bent), curved quillons each with swelling faceted terminal, and fluted globular pommel with button finial (grip missing, some pitting and rust patination overall)
