A Rare And Unusual English Silver-Gilt Mounted Hanger
Indistinct London Silver Hallmarks For 1691

With curved saw-back blade double-edged at the point, faintly engraved with foliage and deeply struck with a profile head mark on both sides of the forte, one side with the copper-filled mark of Gyles Lyndesey, a dagger over 'T', hilt finely engraved with foliage comprising short rear quillon with rounded terminal cast and chased with a horseman against a stippled ground, shell side-guard within a loop linked to the knuckle-guard, the former with profile bust of a Roman emperor and foliage against a partly stippled ground, the latter with central bust en suite and with dolphin terminal at the top, its tail secured by a tube on the flat foliate engraved pommel plate (border incomplete) with button finial, eared agate grip (one ear chipped) of tapering circular section with deep basal ferrule surmounted by a pierced and engraved crest and finely engraved with strawberry foliage, and retaining most of its original gilding
