Footnotes
Unscrewable tang-buttons of the form found on this hanger appear to be unique to English swords of the 17th century, and are commonly found on swords with blades made in the Hounslow factory founded in 1626 with Solingen craftsmen. The name 'Johannes Kindt', in a variety of spellings, is one of the most commonly found on blades that also bear the name of the factory so there can be little doubt that this blade also came from Hounslow. It may not have been made there, however, since the blade of a hanger in the Victoria & Albert Museum, dated 1634 and bearing both Kindt's name and that of the factory has the mark of Clemens Horn of Solingen struck on the tang. The Kindt family came from Solingen, but no independent record of Johannes in England has ever been found
