A Rare Left-Hand Dagger
Early 17th Century, Probably English

With tapering blade of stiff diamond section with notch-waved double edge and four deeply cut fullers each pierced with small circular holes and ovals over most of its length on each side, rectangular ricasso en suite and recessed for the thumb on one side, iron hilt with straight flat quillons widening towards the tips, fluted rounded pommel with button finial, and original bottle-shaped grip with an interwoven chequered binding of fine copper and brass wire (some losses), the pommel and front of the guard encrusted in silver with running foliage against a punched stippled ground
