A 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer's Sword
Circa 1800

With broad curved single-edged blade finely etched over most of its length on one side with differing designs of strapwork and foliage framing panels enclosing an elaborate trophy of arms, crowned royal arms and mottos, and a Chinese pagoda, and along the other framing panels enclosing a differing trophy of arms, crowned foliated 'GR' monogram and a martial trophy, regulation stirrup hilt with unusual faceted cone-shaped pommel and back-piece in one, and ribbed leather-covered grip bound with twisted silver wire, in its steel scabbard (minor dents) with two rings for suspension (hilt and scabbard rust patinated)
