A 20-Bore Brass-Mounted Flintlock Pistol

With two-stage barrel slightly swamped at the muzzle, engraved 'London' and decorated with foliage at the breech, engraved tang, signed border engraved rounded lock (top-jaw, screw and steel old replacements) sparsely decorated with foliage on the tail, cock en suite, figured full stock (split through at the lock and butt) carved with a shell behind the tang, border engraved brass mounts comprising shaped side-plate pierced and engraved with foliage, shaped foliate engraved escutcheon, spurred pommel with a flowerhead centred on the retaining screw, trigger-guard engraved with a flowerhead on the bow and with foliate finial, turned brass ramrod-pipes, and brass-capped ramrod (barrel and lock with some pitting), London proof marks and maker's mark

Footnotes

Joseph Buckmaster was elected Master of the Gunmakers' Company in 1746 and 1757. He was Gunmaker to the Hudson's Bay Company between 1745-64 and to Ordnance between 1756-60. He died in 1764
