With tapering fullered blade (some pitting) double-edged towards the point and etched at the forte with crowned 'GR' monogram between a foliate vase and baldachin and the figure of Britannia on one side, and the royal arms between draped foliage and a martial trophy on the other, both sides with traces of gilding, the back of the blade etched 'I.W.K. Solingen', regulation gilt-copper hilt with double shell-guard, knuckle-guard, rear quillon and faceted pommel each cast and chased with foliage, the last with prominent button, and swelling grip bound with twisted silver wire, in black leather scabbard (conserved) with gilt-copper locket and chape, the latter with frog-hook and signed within a double circle on one side, and retaining most of its original gilding overall

Joseph Dean is recorded as a gold-laceman, sword cutler and button maker. He was at 4 Strand between 4 April 1790 until the summer of 1801. His business was carried on by his widow Priscilla following his death in 1808
