A Cased Pair Of Irish 25-Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols
Signed Alley, Circa 1800

Converted from flintlock, with rebrowned twist sighted barrels each swamped towards the muzzle and inlaid with a gold swag behind the gold fore-sight, engraved breeches, foliate engraved tangs each incorporating a back-sight and with a gold line, signed foliate engraved flat bevelled locks (one hammer retaining screw missing) each with an original martial trophy in front of the stepped tail, figured half-stocks with rounded chequered butts, the latter each with engraved silver butt-cap, spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial and engraved with a martial trophy on the bow, unusual vacant silver and gold escutcheons, engraved silver fore-end caps, and steel-tipped ramrods (some wear and areas of surface rust): in brass-mounted mahogany case (keyhole escutcheon and hook catches missing) lined and fitted in dark blue velvet with some accessories including leather-covered three-way flask and brass nipple-primer, the interior of the lid with remains of trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting circular brass carrying handle
