An Unusual 14-Bore Tutenag-Mounted Flintlock Sporting Gun
By T. Archer Of Birmingham, Circa 1780

With earlier rebrowned two-stage barrel turned at the girdle and with silver spider fore-sight, octagonal breech signed 'I. Brookes London' along the top flat, hook breech, grooved foliate engraved tang, signed border engraved flat bevelled lock decorated with rocailles and martial trophies, cock en suite, figured full stock (repaired around the barrel-bolt on one side) inlaid with silver wire trophy of arms around the barrel tang, take-down fore-end (split and repaired with a white-metal band at the muzzle), border engraved mounts comprising shaped bevelled side-plate decorated with a martial trophy, vacant cast and chased trophy of arms escutcheon involving a bearded grotesque, butt-plate en suite with the side-plate, trigger-guard with acorn finial and engraved with a flowerhead in a diamond-shaped panel on the bow, tutenag ramrod-pipes, and later brass-tipped ramrod (sling mounts missing)
