A Fine Cased French 120-Bore Flintlock Box-Lock Pocket Pistol
Signed Arlot Le Juene A Paris, Circa 1790

With reblued turn-off barrel signed in full along the top and engraved with a band of foliage against a stippled gold ground around the muzzle, signed breech engraved with thunderbolts either side of a panel of foliage, action engraved with foliage and an oval on each side framing differing martial trophies, all against a finely stippled gold ground, engraved thumbpiece safety-catch also invisibly locking the engraved steel, cock engraved with a mask on the top jaw, folding trigger, figured swelling rounded butt carved with foliage and inlaid with silver wire scrollwork, and silver lion-mask butt-cap cast and chased with a flower and scrollwork against a stippled ground: in later lined and fitted mahogany case, the exterior of the lid with vacant brass escutcheon

Footnotes

In 1786 Arlot was signing himself 'Arquebusier du Roy' and in 1796 he was one of the signatories of the petition of the Paris gunmakers against the Manufactory at Versailles. His name appears with that of Fatou on a gun presented to Napoleon
