A Composite Half-Armour
Comprehensively Mid-Late 16th Century

Comprising a German burgonet with one-piece skull with roped comb (repair) and upturned pointed peak each bordered by line engraving, neck-guard en suite with the peak and bordered by rivets with embossed iron washers (incomplete), and associated hinged ear-pieces with turned borders, German gorget comprising two main plates with three neck-plates at front and rear, hinged together and secured by pin and keyhole catches on the right, the front plates with low medial ridge, and domed lining rivets, the front plate struck with a shield-shaped mark, breast-plate of peascod form with medial ridge (minor holeing and repairs) and bold roped turn above a recessed border at the neck, moveable armhole gussets en suite (one damaged), and later single plate skirt, back-plate with turned recessed borders, fully articulated vambraces with turning joints and heart-shaped side-wings, the pauldrons with turned recessed borders with a line of domed rivets, and later skirt of three overlapping lames with tassets of four lames each, the bottom ones pointed and each with turned edge (rust patinated overall); together with a composite broadsword with double-edged blade (point reduced and drilled with three holes), hilt comprising 16th Century guard in excavated condition with arched quillons and writhen terminals (one incomplete), linked by a slender side-bar on the outside, and with an inner guard, large plummet-shaped pommel, and later wire-bound grip (2)
