Footnotes
The hilt of this sword, apart from the unusual, strongly in-curved quillons relates closely to those on a small group of swords and daggers ascribed to an unidentified Milanese workshop. The swords, one with a dagger en suite, are in the Hofjagd-und Rüstkammer, Vienna (Nos. A790, 794, 795), and a third is in the Wallace Collection (A509). Highly unusual, and possibly unique, is the fact that the inlays on the hilt are in brass and not precious metal
