A Rare Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Last Quarter Of The 17th Century

With broad double-edged blade with central fuller over most of its length on each side, iron 'ribbon' guard of flat broad bars retaining traces of incised double lines and involving saltires, circular panels and an 'S' on each side, rudimentary quillons, compressed globular pommel drawn-out to a button, and later leather-covered grip (rust patinated throughout)
