The First Dated 1860, The Last 19th Century
The first with bright tapering double-edged blade (point filed-off) of flattened diamond section etched with a symmetrical design of foliage over each side, fullered rectangular ricasso en suite and inscribed 'Fa. De Toledo 1860' on one side, hilt with white-metal tapering quillons, boxwood grip (minor split) of circular section with compressed swelling at the base, and small threaded partly fluted white-metal pommel, in original white-metal scabbard engraved with foliage; the second adapted from a 17th century backsword blade and struck on one side with a mark, and later iron-mounted turned wooden grip (rust patinated); the last with slender sharply tapering blade of hollow triangular section (rust patinated), and malacca handle with spirally-fluted collar and knop finial, the former incorporating a button-catch, in original malacca scabbard en suite (3)
