In excavated condition, with sharply tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section, iron hilt comprising slender arched quillons of square section tapering towards the tips, and thick pommel of diamond section flattened at the front and back

The form of the pommel is recorded on only four other swords; two very similar boy's swords respectively in the City Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow and the collection of the Late Sir James Mann, and two adults' swords of which one was found in the River Witham, near Lincoln.
