A Gothic Rowel Spur
Late 15th Century

Of iron and for the left foot, with downcurved heel-band of plano-convex section changing to flattened triangular towards the tapering ends pierced with single holes, each side with two pierced lugs on top retaining an original buckle and two hooks respectively for the leathers, and long slender tapering slightly downcurved neck with small star-shaped rowel of six points, the neck and rear of the heel-band decorated with pairs of diagonal hatched bands (areas of pitting overall)
24.5 cm.
